Quick answer

What Is An AI Marketing Readiness Scorecard?

An AI marketing readiness scorecard is a short assessment that measures how prepared your business is to win customers with AI. This one scores four pillars that decide whether AI pays off: strategy, data, search and AI visibility, and team workflows. In three minutes you get a score out of 100, your readiness level, and the gaps to close first.

Think of it as an AI readiness assessment built specifically for marketing. Each of the 12 questions is worth up to 3 points, every pillar carries the same weight, and your answers never leave your browser unless you choose to email yourself the PDF report.

Why I built it

Most Businesses Are Using AI Without A Plan

AI tools are easy to buy and hard to turn into leads. In 22+ years of marketing and 500+ ad accounts, I have seen the same pattern: the gap between spend and results usually sits in the plan, the data, the visibility, and the habits around the software. I built this AI marketing readiness scorecard so you can see those gaps in three minutes, for free, before spending another dollar.

43%

Australian SMEs using AI

The National AI Centre’s SME AI Pulse found 43% of Australian SMEs reported some level of AI adoption from December 2025 to February 2026.

19%

Do not know where to start

Among SMEs not using AI, 19% said they do not know how to use it in their business, up 2 points on the previous quarter.

14,800

AI citations in three months

My own site earned 14,800 citations in Microsoft Copilot and partner AI experiences in three months, according to Bing Webmaster Tools.

The adoption figures come from the National AI Centre’s AI adoption insights, a monthly survey of at least 400 SME owners and decision-makers. The citation numbers, and what they do and do not prove, are in my AI citations case study.

Your result

What Your AI Marketing Readiness Score Means

Your score places you in one of four readiness levels. Each level points to a different first move, so treat yours as a starting line for action.

Score Level What it usually means
0 to 34 AI Curious AI use is ad hoc. The first fixes are cheap: a one-page plan, one owner, and basic tracking.
35 to 59 AI Experimenter Testing is happening, but results depend on a few keen people. Structure and measurement come next.
60 to 79 AI Builder Real foundations are in place. Closing two or three gaps puts you ahead of most competitors.
80 to 100 AI-Ready Leader Marketing is ready for AI. The edge now comes from speed, first-hand proof, and visibility in AI answers.

The checklist

The 12-Point AI Marketing Readiness Checklist

These are the 12 checks the AI marketing readiness scorecard is built on, grouped into its four pillars. A business that can tick all 12 is ready to win customers with AI.

Strategy And Leadership

  1. A written AI marketing plan tied to revenue goals, owners, and budget.
  2. One senior owner with the time and authority to drive AI.
  3. Every AI tool justified by a measurable cost saving or revenue lift.

Data And Measurement

  1. Leads and sales tracked from first click to revenue in a CRM.
  2. One CRM that updates automatically from your website forms.
  3. A weekly results review from one dashboard, with owners and actions.

Search And AI Visibility

  1. Regular checks of whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, and Google’s AI Mode mention and cite you.
  2. First-hand content: expertise, data, and case studies with a named author.
  3. Pages indexed and fast, a current Business Profile, and Search Console monitored.

Team, Workflows And Governance

  1. Documented AI workflows with saved prompts, templates, and checks.
  2. Every AI-assisted claim fact-checked against its source before publishing.
  3. A written AI data policy, approved tools, and staff training.

How Do You Measure AI Marketing Readiness?

You measure AI marketing readiness by scoring the conditions that let AI produce results: a plan with an owner, data you can trust, visibility in search and AI answers, and team workflows with quality checks. A business with two tools and clean data is usually more ready than one with ten AI subscriptions and no tracking.

Across 22+ years in marketing and 500+ ad accounts I have managed and optimised, the pattern repeats. The businesses that win with AI fix the foundations first, then add tools. This scorecard follows the same order, and the full report ranks your fixes by how much each one is holding you back.

Why Does AI Readiness Matter For Search?

AI readiness matters for search because buyers now ask AI assistants who to trust, and those answers draw on websites that search engines can find, index, and believe. Google says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, beyond being indexed and eligible for a snippet.

That makes the basics decisive. Clean technical SEO, current business data, and first-hand content with a named expert are what earn mentions and citations. Google also says it is critical to manually fact-check and review all AI-generated content before publishing, which is why governance sits inside this AI readiness assessment.

How To Improve Your AI Marketing Readiness In 5 Steps

  1. Take The Scorecard Honestly

Answer for what is true today. A flattering score hides the gaps that cost you leads.

  2. Fix Your Weakest Pillar First

One weak pillar drags down the other three, so start where your score is lowest.

  3. Give Every Fix One Owner

A fix with a name and a deadline gets done. A fix shared by everyone usually waits.

  4. Measure Against A Baseline

Record leads, sales, and AI mentions before you change anything, so you can prove what worked.

  5. Retake It Every 90 Days

Track your AI marketing readiness score each quarter and keep only the changes that moved revenue.

“Having Crom in my team has been invaluable, not only has he helped save (tens of) thousands of dollars worth of inefficient spending, but he’s also run some of the most successful acquisition campaigns I’ve seen in my career. Both quantity-wise and cost-efficiency-wise. A lead gen machine.”

Wasif Kasim, Founder, WK Consulting

“I worked with Crom and all I can say is this guy is a genius. Very knowledgable. He just knows his stuff, he’s the hardest worker and calmest person in the room. I couldn’t have thought about half of his ideas and recommendations. I highly recommend his work.”

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About AI Marketing Readiness

What Is A Good AI Marketing Readiness Score?

A score of 60 or more means real foundations are in place, and 80 or more means your marketing is ready to scale with AI. Most businesses starting out land between 35 and 59, which is normal and very fixable.

How Long Does The Scorecard Take?

About three minutes. You pick your industry, team size, and budget, answer 12 multiple-choice questions, and your score, pillar results, and cost estimate appear as soon as you answer the last one.

Are My Answers Stored Anywhere?

Your answers are scored in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you request the PDF report, which shares your details and results with Crom Salvatera so the report can be emailed to you.

How Is The Monthly Opportunity Estimated?

It is a rough planning estimate built from your team size, marketing budget, and score. It assumes AI can help with about a quarter of marketing tasks, values team time at A$75 an hour, and treats up to 20% of your budget as at risk without solid tracking, all scaled by your readiness gaps. Every assumption is shown with your result, and an AI marketing audit replaces them with your real numbers.

Is This The Same As An AI Readiness Assessment?

It is an AI readiness assessment focused on marketing. General assessments cover IT systems and company-wide risk. This one measures what decides whether AI brings in leads and sales.

How Do I Get The PDF Report?

Use the PDF report button under your results and add your business details. A branded PDF with your score, all 12 answers, your pillar scores, up to five priority fixes, and your 90-day plan is emailed to you. Reports are available to businesses in Australia, the United States, and New Zealand.

Can The Score Predict My Results?

No scorecard can predict sales or rankings. Treat your score as a clear starting point for decisions, then confirm the details with a full audit of your accounts and website.

What to do next

Turn Your Score Into A Plan

AI marketing readiness comes down to four things: a plan with an owner, data you can trust, visibility where buyers ask, and workflows with quality checks. Take the scorecard, fix your weakest pillar first, and retake it every quarter.
